Friends of Horses Rescue and Adoption

Kings Crossing residents Sandy McFarland and her two children volunteer at “Friends of Horses Rescue and Adoption (FOHRAA),” a Denver-area non-profit organization that strives to place horses in adoptive loving homes. Most of the rescued horses are foals, retired thoroughbred racers, and horses that have been rescued from slaughterhouses.

The McFarlands found out about FOHRAA on the Internet, and decided to volunteer as a family. After the first day, “we fell in love with it!” exclaims Sandy.

Mostly, they groom, brush, bathe and feed the horses. But, they also get to train the horses, and sometimes get to ride them.

Volunteering with her children has been a rewarding experience for Sandy. Not only does she get to spend time with her kids, she knows they are working for a good cause.

“The organization is always looking for more volunteers, so if you’re interested in horses, give FOHRAA a call,” states Sandy.
