Foster a child who needs a caring home

By Patte Smith

On average, within Douglas, Arapahoe and Jefferson counties, 1,100 children are in foster care. These children have been abused, abandoned or neglected and are in need of a safe, caring home.

The Collaborative Foster Care Program is holding free information nights in Douglas County in June and August. These presentations are open to anyone interested in learning more about foster care and adoption.

Learn about the requirements and considerations for becoming a foster or adoptive parent. There will be ample opportunity to ask questions of the team members after the presentation.

The June 19 information night will be held at Cabela’s in Lone Tree from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Cabela’s is located at 10670 Cabela Drive. The August 14 presentation will be at the Millhouse at the Philip S. Miller Park, 1375 West Plum Creek Parkway in Castle Rock.

Reservations are encouraged, but not required. To register, call 303-636-1543 or visit www.jeffco.us/collaborative-foster-care/. Due to the nature of materials and information covered, children and teens may not attend the information night.
