Fitness 1440 owners celebrate new business

When word began to spread earlier this year that Canyon Fitness Club was closing, club member Vince Calvanese and his wife Jennifer shared the news with his business partner Russ Stallings and wife Wind Dee. Calvanese and Stallings immediately contacted the club’s landlord to begin a dialogue about their plans for the soon-to-be-vacated facility.
“Russ and I work together in corporate America and wanted to partner up to do something fun and that would allow us to feel connected to the community. As members of the community, we all felt strongly that we needed to keep a neighborhood fitness club going – one that has all of the amenities of a big box gym, but where you’re not just a number – because we’re all neighbors. Since the four of us are passionate about health and wellness, we felt that this was the perfect model for us.” Fitness 1440 is located on Happy Canyon Road in The Village at Castle Pines.
The Calvaneses live in Castle Pines and have four children; the Stallings live in Highlands Ranch and have three children. The couples have been taking turns in juggling family activities and responsibilities, along with their full-time jobs as they worked through re-branding and marketing, remodeling and construction, upgrading the facility’s equipment, managing existing staff while adding new staff, keeping up with facility’s daily operations, and taking care of their current club members.
Calvanese said, “The feedback has been tremendous and our goal is to turn this place around so that we’ll always have a local/boutique-style club. Once the construction is completed, our vision is to be very active participants of the community, promoting health and wellness. We’d like to utilize our facility as a place where people can come and learn more about nutrition, personal defense, longevity, health and financial well-being, etc. We will be setting up classes and workshops after the holidays.”
