The first synthetic turf field in the 22-acre Real Colorado Park soccer complex should be ready for its first players on March 1, 2012. Ground on the field was broken in late summer, and earth movers were busy grading the field through the month of October. Turf installation is slated for early December and a ribbon cutting is tentatively planned for late January.

This first field is just a small part of what the park will ultimately include. The project is being done in phases and will take several years until completion.

“Phasing [of the project] is really geared to how our fundraising advances,” said Jared Spires, chief administrative officer for Real Colorado.

In addition to the synthetic turf field, the first phase will include parking, landscaping and the infrastructure for the park’s championship grass field. At completion, the park will be home to five practice/league game fields, a championship natural grass field, a sport court and a clubhouse.

“We’re a community organization and we’re looking forward to having a home in the community,” said Spires. “We think it will be a great place for kids to celebrate and enjoy the game of soccer.”
