Fire District mill levy passes
South Metro Fire Rescue, the fire protection district for Castle Pines North and other southern suburban areas in Douglas and Arapahoe Counties, held an election on May 4, 2004. Voters elected two Board members, Michael Hunt and David Heller, and approved the proposal to increase the fire district’s mill levy. Votes for the mill levy increase were 1,829, with 1,105 voting against it.
The fire district’s plans for the additional funds include construction of a new fire station in the Daniels Gate area of Castle Pines North, as well as improved emergency services throughout the district, improving fleet maintenance facilities and dispatch services, and adding staff and a new fire engine for the Lone Tree Station 34.
The tax increase of 2.75 mills will go into effect in 2005. The increase to the owner of a home valued at $200,000 is $43.78. The mill levy increase is expected to generate just under $8 million the first year.
