Fashion show brings out individual flair

The annual Village Castle Pines Garden Club (VCPGC) fashion show brought fresh flair this year, including a change of venue and a new run of show with two special men in the lineup.

Eight models who are VCPGC members selected based on their stellar representation, active duty and engagement within the club, strutted the catwalk at the Hilton Denver Inverness Hotel. Each selected three outfits from Parker Panache boutique that reflected their individual personalities and style.

Former VCPGC President Darcy DeRose’s husband, Jim, deejayed the event and created specific playlists for each model based on their favorite songs – everything from Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” to Right Said Fred’s, “I’m Too Sexy.” The result was a very high energy and uniquely personal performance by each model.

Current President Lisa Berlin’s husband, Michael Shorts, photographed the event and captured each model’s personality as they enjoyed their time on the runway.

What started in 1994 as a small group of women in The Village at Castle Pines, VCPGC has now grown to more than 180 members. Open to anyone,VCPGC is built on four pillars: cultivating friendship, education, gardening and charity.

Committee co-chair Joan Heftye said she found a love for gardening and new friendships in 2021 when she moved to the Village from Santa Fe, New Mexico.

With more than nine committees to join, members can choose from a variety of volunteer activities, including maintaining the Village Lake Serenity Garden or Tweet Kimball’s Memorial Garden at Cherokee Ranch & Castle. Social activities include things like the annual fashion show, Wine in the Garden, the upcoming July 10 Denim Diamonds and Pearls evening home gathering, and holiday parties. VCPGC also engages in philanthropic endeavors like its recent toiletry drive to benefit Help & Hope Center (see related story page  27).
