Farmers Markets – Fresh and Fun

Springtime brings warm weather, blooming flowers and farmers market season. Markets have evolved into community social events for families, friends and the growers. Fresh vegetables, fruit, baked goodies, flowers, plants, honey and beverages are a few of the items available.

Shop for farm-fresh seasonal produce while wandering through markets chatting with the vendors and farmers who supply a wider variety of locally grown food. It is a win-win for shoppers, farmers and local communities. Healthier and fresher, the farm-to-table concept assures fresh ingredients that support a nutritious diet.

According to the USDA, “When food is produced, processed, distributed, and sold all within the same region, more money stays in the local economy. Markets provide opportunities for small farmers and businesses to sell their products, and they help meet the growing demand for locally produced food. Being able to directly market to the consumer, farmers develop important income opportunities without the added costs of shipping, storage, and inventory control.”
