Erosion control at Oak Hills Tributary

submitted by The Castle Pines North Metro District

The Oak Hills Tributary is a natural drainage area that over the years has become a serious erosion problem. The creek lies below Daniel’s Park and follows the property line of homeowners off Horizon Trail. Rainwater has washed away soil to depths of twenty feet in places, compromising the integrity of adjoining animal containment fencing.

CPNMD received a matching grant this year from Urban Drainage and Flood Control District to mitigate future damage. The grant for $80,000 amounts to half of the cost of the $160,000 project. The project began this summer after permitting and agreements were obtained from intergovernmental agencies and adjacent residents to access the affected area and make necessary repairs. A series of concrete drop structures will be installed to prevent further erosion. The project is to be completed by the end of fall.

The Oak Hills Tributary flows from Whisper Canyon underneath Monarch Boulevard through Coyote Ridge Park and eventually to the Town of Parker.
