Douglas County Search & Rescue MRA Re-Accreditation

Paul J Miller
Public Information Officer
Douglas County Search and Rescue

Douglas County Search and Rescue successfully passed their Mountain Rescue Association Re-Accreditation tests on April 24th and 25th. The testing process was conducted at Castlewood Canyon State Park on Saturday with three different scenarios. Two winter scenarios were performed at Berthoud Pass on Sunday. The evaluations included Search, Low Angle Technical Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Avalanche Rescue and Winter Technical Rescue.

Members from other Rocky Mountain Region MRA Accredited Teams observed, discussed, and voted unanimously to pass DCSAR on all five scenarios. Alpine SAR, Summit County Rescue Group, El Paso County SAR, Grand County SAR, Larimer SAR, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group, Vail Mountain Rescue Group, Routt County SAR, and Western State College Mountain Rescue Team generously volunteered their time for this two day event. A combined total of 82 SAR members participated over the Weekend including a guest from Everett Washington Search and Rescue.

DCSAR will be accepting new members this Fall so keep checking their website for updates (dcsarco.org). Don’t forget to purchase your Colorado Search and Rescue Cards (CORSAR) and remember that Search & Rescue does not charge for their services.
