Dog rescue in icy pond in Castle Pines Village

South Metro Fire Rescue Authority (SMFR) firefighters rescued a dog from a pond in Castle Pines Village at 4300 Prospect, February 27 at 10:45 a.m.
The owner reported that the dog had gone out onto the ice and then went into the open water. It then could not get out by itself. Firefighter Robert Baker (pictured above), who had arrived in an ice rescue suit, entered the water and helped the dog out. EMS Supervisor Brian Neafus said that he was glad people did not try to go out onto the ice and rescue the dog and waited for a trained professional with special equipment to make the rescue.
This is the second call to this specific body of water SMFR has responded to in which an animal had fallen through the ice. Please remember as temperatures fluctuate that the ice is not a safe place for animals or people. SMFR has had four calls already in 2010 of dogs falling through the ice.
