Devoted family man and orthodontist
Dr. Andrew Dunbar has been a pillar of the community, practicing orthodontics here for 22 years. His dedication to transforming smiles and improving dental health at Castle Pines Orthodontics has made him a well-known figure, as well as wife Jen, who works at the practice as the treatment and marketing coordinator.
The Village at Castle Pines residents, Andrew and Jen have been married for 33 years and are devoted parents to two daughters, Sierra and Jane, whose unique journeys reflect a blend of family values and individual passions.
Sierra (30) was born in Okinawa, Japan, while Andrew was on active duty with the Navy. Recently married to Juan Curbelo in Palm Springs, Sierra now manages her husband’s polo career. They divide their time between Santa Barbara and Argentina, embracing a bi-continental lifestyle.
Jane (25) was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and shares her sister’s enthusiasm for horses. In addition to her equestrian interests, Jane is also involved in TV and film makeup. She works locally at a barn in the Daniels Gate area.
For Andrew, balancing a demanding career with family life requires intentional effort.
“We stay connected through calls, texts, and emails,” he said. “We also travel as much as we can to see our oldest daughter wherever she is. When our kids were growing up, we prioritized traveling together and to spend quality time outdoors.”
A personal story that deeply impacted Andrew’s approach to fatherhood involves his early history. He was adopted, growing up in Oklahoma. “In 2013, a medical condition prompted me to find my biological parents, and I discovered my mother didn’t want much connection, but my father, who didn’t know I existed, welcomed me,” explained Andrew. His biological dad is a singer, half Spanish, half English, and Andrew recently watched him perform in California. This journey has reinforced Andrew’s belief in the importance of connection and understanding within families.
Andrew’s passion for his work is evident in the memorable moments he shared about his patients. “Seeing young people come in unhappy with their smile and leaving with a newfound confidence is incredibly rewarding,” he reflected. “The outcomes are life-changing. It takes time and hard work, but when you see the results, you’re so happy you did it.”
When asked for advice for young men and women considering a career in orthodontics or healthcare, Andrew emphasized the importance of pursuing one’s passion but with a realistic understanding of the financial challenges. “Just know that the education is expensive, and starting a practice while managing student loans can be tough,” he advised. “Utilize resources like the military to help pursue your passion.”
In his free time, Andrew enjoys playing golf and pickleball, often unwinding at The Club at Ravenna at Roxborough State Park. He and his family support local businesses, frequently dining at Duke’s Steakhouse and other restaurants around Castle Pines.
Andrew’s story is one of dedication, both to his craft and his family, illustrating how professional success and personal fulfillment can beautifully intertwine.
“It’s a very rewarding career, and if I had to do it all over again, I would do it the same way,” he concluded. “I love what I do.”
