Cutest Pet in the Pines
Congratulations Rocky, the 6-month-old English black Labrador who lives with his family, Mike, Maria Isabel, Sofia (9) and Emilia (5) at their home in the Hidden Pointe subdivision of the City of Castle Pines for winning the Cutest Pet in the Pines honors for 2020.
Rocky’s favorite treat is a good pig’s ear. He loves the snow, and chewing on sticks out in his yard, but his favorite activity is tagging along with his girls, Sofia and Emilia. Maria Isabel says he follows them everywhere. “He’s an angel – the best first puppy ever. He’s a super gentle soul,” she commented.
The Castle Pines Connection had a little help choosing the winner this year. Julie Schade’s Timber Trail Elementary first grade class chose Rocky as this year’s cutest pet. Schade led her virtual classroom through a slideshow of all the cute nominees. When it was time to vote, the excited students were placed into individual breakout rooms within Google Meets to allow for anonymous voting. Rocky will receive a $100 gift certificate to The Pet Stuff Place, a basket of goodies and bragging rights for the year. Olive and Wonton were both runners-up, and they will each receive $50 gift certificates.
There was an abundance of adorable entries, all cute for different reasons. The Connection staff picked four honorable mentions – Tank, Rocco, T-Rex and Dana – who will each receive a $25 gift certificate.
Thank you to all who submitted photos of your pets; it is always such a tough decision choosing just a few winners out of the dozens of entries we receive. Really, they are all winners in our hearts. A portion of this year’s proceeds went to benefit the Denver Dumb Friends League, so a special thank you to our sponsors for making the contest possible: The Pet Stuff Place, Animal Care Center of Castle Pines, Camp Bow Wow – Castle Rock, Lone Tree Veterinary Medical Center, The Last Paws, Allstate Insurance – Tammy Lopez, and State Farm Insurance – Nick Ainsworth.
