The students of Timber Trail Elementary let their creativity shine during a recent creative bookmark competition. Designs of mountain scenery and the school mascot were just a few of the many creative submissions.

Timber Trail Elementary (TTE) kicked off its annual bookmark competition celebrating Read Across America. All TTE students were invited to create and submit one finished bookmark. The bookmarks were rated on original design and were required to include the word “read.” Top bookmarks from each grade included geometric designs, TTE Timberwolves, video games, book characters, outer space, animals with books, quotes from famous people, and scenic mountain themes. The bookmarks with the most votes from each grade level won a set of markers along with a Barnes and Noble gift card provided by the TTE Parent Teacher Organization. “The students exceeded all expectations with their creative submissions,” TTE library specialist Ilana Bove said.

Fifth grader Cole Richardson’s striking tiger eye bookmark was not only one of the winning bookmarks, it was a representation of himself and reading. Cole said he decided to design a tiger because they remind him of the movie “Rocky” and tiger is a sports mascot.
