Many people appreciate the beauty of wood, but true craftsmen are enthralled with it from its beginning form as a tree to a piece of fine furniture. These wood workers, crafts people with an eye for detail and patience to bring out a rich and warm patina, see the potential of a log becoming an heirloom to be passed on for generations.
Jack Goodrich, a Castle Pines North (CPN) resident since 2006, and a retired dentist is one such craftsman. He started a fine woodworking and remodeling business after 30 years as a dentist in the San Francisco bay area and here in Colorado for a short time. “I started working with wood when I was 15-years-old. I’ve taken classes, read many books on wood crafting, learned from watching fellow cabinet makers and at times jumped in and just did it.”
As he describes how he cuts each piece of wood, miters it together, sands it, rechecks it, and the various finishing techniques he employs, Goodrich exudes enthusiasm for his craft. “I love what I am doing and making something of value for my clients that they can take pride in,” said Goodrich. “Every wood has its own natural beauty and to bring that out is very gratifying.” He explains that a piece of wood that looks average to someone can become a stunning piece of furniture. Not only a fine furniture maker, he also does home and bathroom remodeling. He has a complete wood-working workshop in his home and has published a hard-cover sales piece that features several of his creative projects. He proudly shows this to prospective clients. Several of his customers have been CPN residents.
A member of the Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce and a member of one of its referral groups, he is a firm believer in the importance of the chamber of commerce and being involved in the community. Goodrich graciously built and donated a beautiful desk/bookcase to the chamber’s office in CPN. He is also a member of the Castle Rock chamber. He served as a past president of a bay area chamber and also served as a president for The Boys & Girls Club.
Goodrich and his wife, Deanna, have a son and two daughters and four grandchildren. They lived in the bay area a long time, but always knew they wanted to retire in Colorado. They are very active and enjoy golfing, camping, fly-fishing and dancing. Although a 49ers fan for years, Goodrich emphatically states that he is a “true, blue Broncos” fan.
