CPN Ward 1 council member Havercroft steps down

Castle Pines North Ward 1 Council Member Jennifer Havercroft

Information provided by City of Castle Pines North

Castle Pines North Ward 1 Council Member Jennifer Havercroft has resigned her position effective April 14 due to a family move.

Havercroft submitted a letter of resignation to the city council at its April 13 meeting. The council member noted she was resigning with regret, but said her family is beginning a new chapter of their lives that has them moving out of the community.

Havercroft was an inaugural council member elected when the city incorporated in February 2008 and was reelected to a second term in November 2009. She thanked “those who have supported me, challenged me, trusted me and believed in me. Your involvement has helped make this community what it is today.”

At the April 13 meeting, council approved a resolution to officially declare the vacancy and to establish the process to fill the vacancy by appointment. According to state statute, council has 60 days to fill the position with a current resident of Ward 1. City council will vote at the April 27 meeting to fill the vacancy and the selected candidate will be sworn in following the vote.

Interested candidates must submit letters of interest and/or resumes to Deputy City Clerk Carl Kollmar by 4 p.m. Friday, April 23. Candidate interviews will be held on Monday, April 26. Letters and/or resumes received after the deadline will not be considered. Interested applicants must be a Ward 1 resident.

The appointed Ward 1 council representative will serve until the next regular election, which will be held in November 2011. This position is volunteer-based with no compensation.

Havercroft provided the following letter to The Castle Pines Connection regarding her resignation:

Dear CPN Neighbors and Residents,

On April 13th, I tendered my resignation letter to the City Council. My family and I have chosen to start the next chapter of our lives, and it begins with us moving. I felt it was my responsibility to allow Council the maximum amount of time to fill the Ward 1 position. There is no doubt Council will choose someone who is interested and dedicated in representing all residents.

Over the past 3 years, it has been my honor and privilege to serve you in the capacity of Ward 1 city council member. I want to thank each of you who contacted me, supported me, and challenged me. I have thoroughly enjoyed engaging this community and learning what issues are important to you. From sidewalks to a new park to recycling to integration, I am confident that Council will continue to make sure your best interests are at the forefront of their decisions.

I have the utmost respect for those who are working for the betterment of this community. Thank you to past and current council members; I enjoyed working with you. And thank you to staff; you are a knowledgeable group of people who work hard for Castle Pines North.

Thank you residents of Ward 1 for the opportunity. I wish everyone the best as we move forward as a community.

Take care,

Jennifer Havercroft
