CPN resident works with Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls Club is to inspire and enable young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Chad Sanders, Castle Pines North resident has found a life long passion in the work that he does with the Boys and Girls Club of metro Denver.
Sanders has always been an active member in his community, giving back through the American Red Cross, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and coaching football and baseball with the Douglas County Dolphins league. It was through his work as a district manager for Lowes that he found the perfect fit way to give back.
Lowes had given a $150,000 grant to help build the Darrent Williams Memorial Teen Center at the Denver Broncos Boys and Girls Club in Montbello and Sanders was the man to deliver the check. With his research about the Boys and Girls Club, Sanders decided this was exactly the kind of organization where he could commit his time and energy.
“Seeing these kids and comparing wants and needs was very eye opening for me,” said Sanders.
After the completion of the teen center, Sanders applied to become a member of the Associates Board. As a board member Sanders sits on various committees and helps organize events as well as plenty of fundraising.
His favorite project that he works on is the Youth of the Year Gala. The Gala honors the Boys and Girls Clubs of metro Denver’s most outstanding members and is the organization’s largest fundraising event. In attendance were Governor Ritter and Mayor Hickenlooper, as well as many members of the Denver Broncos.
Sanders has also helped local Lowes stores partner with Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the area in a project called Club Clean-up. Each Lowes store adopted a club and helped paint, build and fix things within the eight centers located throughout the Denver metro area.
“By partnering a store with a local club, I hoped to establish a relationship with the people in the community that will continue beyond the project,” said Sanders.
With all of his work as a board member, Sanders cherishes his work with the kids the most. This past year he mentored a 10-year-old girl and helped her apply for the Youth of the Year Award. Every week he spends an evening with her either working on her application, or simply spending time.
