Congratulations to local poets – you are a poet, and we know it!

Information provided by Seniors’ Council of Douglas County

Seniors’ Council of Douglas County (SCDC) is very pleased with the response from participants of the inaugural Every Age Counts! amateur poetry contest. Several amateur poets from the Castle Pines community and the surrounding areas contributed poems to the contest.

“We received over 30 entries from poets ranging in age from 10 years old to 56 plus years old in a wide variety of poetic styles,” noted Gretchen Lopez, chair of SCDC. “Our organization wants to thank the poets who participated in a creative and very personal way to support anti-ageism.”

Numerous judges spent countless hours thoughtfully reading and re-reading each poem to make the final winning selections.

Congratulations to the winners:

  • Helen Ostrowski – My GG
  • Nic Hussey – The Wisdom of Age
  • Rebecca Hensley – Seventeen Today, Eighteen Tomorrow
  • Montana Moore – What Age?
  • Gina Popolizio – Why Isn’t Age Just a Number?
  • Jolene Croall – Motivation in Motion
  • Carol Reed – To the Friends I Hope to Meet
  • Ron Saatjian – The Wrinkle of My Skin

A special awards ceremony in early November celebrated the winners’ achievements with their family and friends. For additional information, visit https://www.douglas.co.us/aging-resources/seniors-council-2/.
