Boy Scout Troop 628 worked several hours in the Surrey Ridge neighborhood doing much-needed maintenance on a section of the horse trail in May. Manned with shovels, pickaxes, sledge hammers and of course, work gloves and sun screen, these willing boys ages 11 through 15 dug out sections of trail and installed wood reinforcements with rebar to help curb future erosion of the path.
It took a lot of stamina by the boys who were also helping a fellow scout, Will Wilson, with his Eagle Scout Project. Scout Master John Uhrie explained, “The parents and I let the boys take the lead on these projects. We are here to stand back and oversee it, but it is their hard work that gets the job done. They are great guys.”
