Community raises thousands for new library
In recognition of all who gave of their time, talents and money, the Castle Pines Connection presented a framed list of contributors to the Douglas County Library District at the September 19 library ribbon cutting ceremony. The list will hang in the new library, as well as be included in the Oct/Nov issue of the community newspaper.

In the month of August alone, the Castle Pines community came out in droves to show support for the new library. Hundreds of library supporters attended the four fundraising events, and in the end, raised more than $11,000 for the new library.
“Determined” is how the members of the community have been described when it comes to finally getting a library and it couldn’t have been more evident than at each of the fundraising events..
At the beginning of the month, CPN resident Linda Day organized a pancake breakfast held at the Applebee’s in Castle Rock. Local parents and their kids headed out together and sold tickets for the event.
During the event, the kids were weighed down with trays of pancakes as they waited tables and served customers. When the last pancake was served and the final drops of syrup had been wiped up, the library had raised more than $4,000.
According to Margie Woodruff, the Douglas County Libraries Foundation Manager, “I found the community to be generous, warm, genuine, and yes, very determined.”
Two CPN residents, Vicky Kellen and Lindsay Kamel, organized the used book sale and children’s book swap. Both events were well attended by the community. More than 15,000 gently used books were collected and more than $4,000 was raised.
The Castle Pines Chamber of Commerce hosted an Authors’ Reception at the Cherokee Ranch and Castle, where around 75 members of the community were treated with a tour of the castle in addition to the informative talk with two best selling authors, Dave Cullen and John Shors photo below.
