Committed to representing the interests of local government in Colorado’s emergency planning, Douglas County Commissioner Steven A. Boand has been appointed by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr., to serve on the Colorado Emergency Planning Commission (CEPC).
Chair of the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) for 2010, Boand is one of two County Commissioners in the state appointed to this commission.
“I am committed to help improve emergency management capabilities for Douglas County as well as all counties in the state and look forward to my time of service on this commission,” said Boand.
The CEPC is under the auspices of the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, Division of Emergency Management, which is responsible for the state’s comprehensive emergency management program that supports local and state agencies. Activities and services cover the four phases of emergency management: preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery for disasters like flooding, tornadoes, wildfire, hazardous materials incidents, and acts of terrorism.
Colorado state statutes designate counties to function as an administrative arm of state government and to serve as the legislative, policy-making, and administrative body governing unincorporated areas of the county.
County commissioners are responsible under state statute for health, safety and welfare of the citizens. Douglas County’s three-member BOCC is the main policy-making body in the county and works to represent the interests of the citizens of Douglas County at local, state, and national levels.
