The winner in the under 13 category said she was inspired by Pikes Peak, fortune hunters, the state bird (the Lark bunting) and the state tree (the blue spruce.)

In 2022, the DMV launched a statewide contest for residents to create art for new license plates to commemorate Colorado’s 150th anniversary, which will be in 2026.

More than 300 entries from 216 citizens participated and 34,000 Coloradans voted on the results.  The two winners were chosen by age group: one in the under 13 category and one in the over 13 category.  Entries were judged on historical significance, artistic design, and how both best represent the state of Colorado.  The winners received $1,000 each and a commemorative license plate.

The license plates are currently available for purchase until July 2027.  The cost is $8.06 per pair, in addition to local fees, and can be purchased at county-operated motor vehicle offices.  For more information, visit dmv.colorado.gov.

The winner in the over 13 category based his design on the simplicity of the state flag, mining and the Rocky Mountains.
