Coming full circle

Dr. Devin Godber received her doctorate of occupational therapy from The MGH Institute
of Health Professions in Boston.
Dr. Devin Godber, a doctor of occupational therapy, knew from an early age that she wanted to work in healthcare. Inspired by medical providers caring for her younger sister Taryn, who was born with a disability, Devin remembers her sister was flown to Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHC) in Denver multiple times.
“Being from rural Wyoming and when you have a child with complex needs, you are limited on the care and resources that you have,” recalled Devin. “Children’s Hospital quite literally saved my sister’s life.”
Over time, Devin realized that she did not just want to be in healthcare. She wanted to be an occupational therapist at CHC to give back to the hospital that had done so much for Taryn.
When Devin was hired at CHC five years ago, she said, “It was a cool, full circle moment. I get to help other people’s sisters, loved ones and children.” She feels great fulfillment in honoring Taryn, who is today in her late 20s and uses a wheelchair. “My sister is proud of me for being able to give back to an organization that we are so passionate about,” shared Devin.
Devin is a certified hand therapist at CHC’s campus in Aurora. She received her doctorate at Massachusetts General Hospital and completed hand and upper extremity specialty training in Boston. Devin enjoys working in pediatrics because she gets to use creativity to make therapy fun for young patients.
“Unlike adults, I cannot tell a 5-year-old to do a stretch or an exercise. You have to be creative to get them to do what you want them to do in their rehab journey,” Devin explained.
When she is not working, Devin enjoys spending time with husband, Luke, a CPA for an investment firm in Denver, daughter Sutton (2) and rescue dog Sage. Expecting their second daughter next month, the Godbers spend most of their free time outdoors, hiking, playing in the park and walking around their City of Castle Pines neighborhood that they moved into in November.
“What we love about Castle Pines is you get a little bit of that small town feel, but you have close access to city amenities. It gives us a taste of home being from Wyoming,” Devin concluded.
