City seeking volunteers for boards, commissions and committees
This information has been provided by the City of Castle Pines North.
The City of Castle Pines North is actively seeking civic-minded residents to serve on a number of recently formed boards and commissions. Qualifications may vary, depending upon the board, but you must be a resident of the City, and be able to commit the time to attend meetings, study packet information, and have an interest in making Castle Pines North a strong community.
Recently, the City Council restructured the Council Committees to include:
Public Works, Utilities, and Parks – This committee’s role is to provide advice, guidance and recommendations in the areas of:
Public Works — including public works engineering, traffic planning, and maintenance and operation of roadways.
Public Utilities–including water, sewer, storm water, renewable water, and waste disposal.
Parks—including parks (and recreation), park operation, park programming, and recreational facilities.
Communications and Community Outreach – This committee provides advice, guidance and recommendations in the areas of communications and public outreach and public relations.
Budget, Finance and Professional Services – This committee provides advice, guidance and recommendations in the areas of:
Municipal accounting, finance, treasury, and financial reporting
City management and administrative services
Public safety
Community planning
Each of the above committees is prescribed to have at least two members of City Council and at least two City residents who are also registered electors.
Urban Renewal Authority – At their September 14 meeting, the Board of Commissioners of the Castle Pines URA (temporarily comprised of council members) approved a Resolution that puts into place the incentive policy and guidelines for public sector participation. This first step in the process enables the Commission to now move forward with a Resolution establishing the procedures for appointment of citizen volunteers to the URA Board of Commissioners.
Additionally, volunteers are needed to serve on the combined Board of Adjustment and Planning and Zoning Commission. The combined Board/Commission will be comprised of five Council-appointed citizens and will play a direct role in shaping how the City grows.
The Planning and Zoning Commission is a recommending body who deliberates and makes recommendations to City Council on land use applications. The Planning Commission is also responsible for developing, adopting and certifying the City’s Comprehensive Plan and subsequent amendments.
The primary responsibility of the Board of Adjustment will be to hold public hearings on variance requests and consider appeals to interpretations made by City Officials. The Board/Commission members will be appointed to a term of three years and convene monthly, or on an as-needed basis.
Last month City Council created an Arts Commission, which promotes and encourages the development, public awareness of and interest in the fine and performing arts in the City and its environs. The Arts Commission, to be comprised of resident volunteers, also advises the City Council in connection with all matters relating to the artistic and cultural development of the City and performs such other functions associated with the arts as the City Council may direct. This Commission does not require you to be a registered elector, but does require residency.
Council member Doug Gilbert states, “The formation of citizen advisory committees by the City is an important step in providing opportunity for citizen input in local government. The model used for the Committees was the Douglas County Sheriff’s Public Safety Advisory Committee. The committees also offer a training opportunity for those wishing to run for city elected office. City Council welcomes applicants to the Committees and looks forward to broad input on how to make Castle Pines a better place to live, work and play.”
Residents who are interested in serving may apply online at http://www.cpngov.com/contact/committees.asp. Application forms are also available at City Hall, 7501 Village Square Drive, Suite 100, Castle Pines North, CO 80108.
