Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable seeks public input

In an effort to gather as much input from the public as possible, the Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable (CACNR) will hold its second public hearing to identify and discuss aircraft-related noise issues. The session will be held on May 5 at 7 p.m. at the Ramada Hotel and Suites adjacent to the air traffic control tower at 7770 South Peoria Street, Englewood.

The CACNR was established, after approval from the FAA, as an advisory committee to monitor programs including the Fly Quiet Program guidelines and Noise Monitoring Program, and to generate discussion and possible solutions for airport noise. The CACNR has set a goal of accepting as much public input as possible in this process. If members of the public are unable to attend the public hearing, public comment is accepted at each CACNR meeting on the first Wednesday of each month.

The roundtable heard initial comments from the public regarding noise impacts on their communities on January 6. Approximately 20 people gave oral or written testimony commenting on helicopter noise, pilot training noise, and northwest and southwest take-offs.

Incorporating input from the public, along with the FAR Part 150 Noise Study and members of the roundtable, the CACNR will finalize a work program to address noise concerns. The work program establishes important items to study and then seeks to reach agreements between the FAA, Airport Authority, airport users and the community to deal with airport noise.

“The purpose of this public hearing is to determine if the Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable has addressed all community concerns regarding noise at Centennial Airport and that we have it right,” stated Karen Blilie, chair of the CACNR.

The noise roundtable is made up of officials and staff from both Arapahoe and Douglas Counties along with the City of Aurora, City of Castle Pines North, Town of Castle Rock, City of Centennial, Town of Foxfield, City of Greenwood Village, City of Lone Tree, and the Town of Parker.

Advisory members of the CACNR are representatives from the FAA Denver Airport District Office, Terminal Radar Approach Control, Centennial Airport Control Tower, Centennial Airport Business Association, Aircraft Owner and Pilots Association, Colorado Department of Transportation, and Centennial Airport.
