Celebrating Independence Day

…in Douglas County

If you are staying in town for the July 4th holiday, there are plenty of activities in Douglas County to celebrate America’s birthday.

Most events listed are free and open to the public, but some require registration, so check websites for specific details.

Castle Pines

While the City of Castle Pines does not have any events or activities planned specifically on July 4, the Party in the Park celebration at Elk Ridge Park on Saturday, August 12 will feature a fireworks display. (See ad here).

Castle Rock

The Town of Castle Rock’s “Castle Rockin’ the Fourth” takes place all day at Philip S. Miller Park.  The festivities begin with a 5K at 9 a.m.  Then to cool down, there will be a foam party at 10 a.m.  Events continue throughout the day, including movies, magic shows, games, food and an evening concert by Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute band.  The grand finale will be a drone show, which replaces the usual patriotic fireworks display.

Lone Tree

The City of Lone Tree celebration, “Salute to the Stars and Stripes,” starts with a family fun ride and stroll at 9 a.m. on a one-mile trek of Willow Creek Trail.  There will be complimentary decorative kits available for those who want to embellish their bikes in red, white and blue.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Party in the Park will be held at Prairie Sky Park at 9381 Crossington Way.  Enjoy inflatables, food trucks and live entertainment.  Most of the events in the park are free, but there may be some associated charges.

The evening event at Prairie Sky Park is from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with live music and fireworks.  Bring coolers, blankets and outdoor games.

Parker

Different from years past, the Town of Parker will host a remote-only fireworks celebration at 9:30 p.m. at Salisbury Park North, 11920 North Motsenbocker Road, lasting approximately 18 minutes, weather permitting.  The Town is encouraging people to watch from home and there will not be a central gathering place as in years past. However, the town will send out a map of “viewing locations” that people can go to in order to watch the show.  The Fourth of July celebration is limited in preparation for an expanded Parker Fall Fest later this year.

Highlands Ranch

Highlands Ranch events kick off with a 5K at 7:30 a.m., which includes a $100 prize for whomever finds the patriotic kettlebell hidden somewhere along the route.  The walk/run begins at Town Center South, 9352 Dorchester Street.

At 8:45 a.m., a family bike and pet parade starts with kids from 2 years old to sixth grade being eligible.  Families should gather at 9285 Hepburn Street.  At 9 a.m. the community parade begins.

Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m. at the Highland Heritage Regional Park, 9651 South Quebec Street.  Food trucks will be on site.
