CASTLE ROCK WRITERS CONFERENCE 2012: ROCK-SOLID WRITING

Castle Rock Writers Conference is back with a 2012 Conference –a quality, one-day writers conference to be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Events Center in Castle Rock on Saturday, October 13, 2012, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

As a newly-established, non-profit organization, Castle Rock Writers are dedicated to providing inspiration to the local writing community and beyond. The planning team is comprised of experienced members of successful past events under the names of Castle Rock Writers Conference and Douglas County Writers Conference.

Keynote presenters are Anne Randolph, MFA, creative writing teacher with Kitchen Table Writing; and Kate Chenery Tweedy, daughter of owner of Secretariat, and award-winning co-author of Secretariat’s Meadow. Tweedy has a new book out this month entitled Riva Ridge: Penny’s First Champion. Other presenters are Trai Cartwright, MFA, writing consultant and former Hollywood development executive; Mary Taylor Young, BS, award-winning nature author of 14 books; Margaret Marshall Rhyne, MA, teacher and memoir writer; and Phyllis Perry, PhD, award-winning author of more than 70 books for children and adults. Each workshop will last one hour and 15 minutes.

“The conference is a great place for new writers to explore the world of writing and publishing and for experienced writers to be refreshed by innovative workshops and knowledgeable speakers,” said Alice Aldridge-Dennis, director.

Cost is $65 ($40 for military/ $30 for high school & college students). Walks-ins are $80. Registration fee includes workshops, lunch catered by Flying Horse Caterers, and materials.

Registered participants who are published may sell their books in the conference bookstore through prior arrangement.  Any registrant may also pitch to agents or publishers from Word Serve Literary, AKA Literary, or Written World Communications.

The day will end with a “Meet the Faculty” time from 4 to 4:30 p.m. for participants to chat with their favorite authors and have books signed.
