Forty years ago, a small group of Douglas County residents formed a club for senior citizens that has since evolved into a non-profit organization with nearly 1,000 members. The Castle Rock Senior Center (CRSC) is a community gathering place that promotes friendship, organizes many activities and programs, and provides information and assistance for people age 50 and older. Services include transportation, financial counseling, wellness checks, health screenings, luncheons, and in-home meal delivery in conjunction with the Volunteers of America “Meals on Wheels” program.

CRSC is located at 2323 North Woodlands Blvd. in the Castle Rock Community Recreation Center in Castle Rock. The organization has a service agreement with the Town of Castle Rock through which CRSC provides services to local seniors, and the Town provides space for CRSC’s use in the Community Center. CRSC is responsible for raising all of its operating revenue and managing of expenses. It also receives funding from the Town and Douglas County for its services. The small paid staff consists of a director, volunteer coordinator, and administrative assistant. All other functions are accomplished by dozens of devoted volunteers.

CRSC’s annual fundraisers include a Spaghetti Dinner, Golf Tournament, and Craft Show. The Spaghetti Dinner will be held April 29 at the United Methodist Church, 1200 South Street in Castle Rock. The event is open to the public from 4-8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at CRSC – adults $8, children ages 6-12 $5, children age 5 and under are free. Tickets at the door will be $10/$6.

The CRSC’s 11th Annual Swing Spring Golf Tournament will be held May 24 at Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course in Castle Rock. The event will be a 4-Person Team Scramble, open to business sponsorships and individuals. Registration is at 7 a.m. and shotgun start at 8 a.m. Registration deadline is May 16. For more information, call 303-688-9498.

The CRSC’s 19th Annual Craft Fair and Bake Sale will be held on November 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Event Center of Douglas County in Castle Rock.
