Nearly 700 students from kindergarten to sixth grade come to Sage
Canyon Elementary (SCE)School in Castle Rock to learn every day. After
working as both a teacher and an assistant principal at the school,
Castle Pines own Mandy Hill (pictured above) is now leading those
students – and the teachers and staff who serve them – as the principal.

“I was on the ‘core team’ that opened this school” said Hill, who
has been in the Douglas County School District (DCSD) for 14 years. “I
think I’m most proud of the culture here, this is a happy place to be.”

Education is a family affair for Hill, whose two children Luke and
Maddie are students at Sage Canyon. Her husband, Gene, is a special
education teacher and head football coach at Douglas County High School.
Because her husband sees many of Hill’s students when they get to high
school, she’s able to keep those connections alive long after students
have graduated from elementary school.

“There really is a community, family feel about the work I do
here,” said Hill. “The community is so positive and supportive, and
it’s fun to see what the kids do as they get older.”

Hill received her education at Doane College in Nebraska, where she
attended on a softball scholarship. Her background in athletics
informs her professional life today, including a spirit of friendly
competition and drive.

“I was always a leader on my team, and that continues in my life
now,” said Hill. “I want to continue to improve on the great things we
have going on here at Sage Canyon, a strong, rigorous curriculum and
great teachers.”

SCE is located in the 80108 zip code, and we welcome them to The Connection. For more information about SCE visit, www.dcsdk12.org/sage-canyon-elementary-school.
