Castle Pines North Urban Renewal Authority: Community Collaboration

Information provided by the City of Castle Pines North

In a move to ensure collaboration and consensus surrounding the formation of an Urban Renewal Authority (URA), the Castle Pines North City Council has signed Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with the Castle Rock Fire District, Parker Water and Sanitation and the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority. The IGAs ensure that the financial future and ability to effectively provide services to area residents will not be financially impacted by the URA.

“I commend the City’s willingness to explore the situations and circumstances we face as a fire district and that they are willing to go that extra step to create an agreement that protects the District’s funding and the services we provide for our future,” said South Metro Fire Rescue Authority Chief Dan Qualman. “This IGA also lays the groundwork for future and ongoing cooperation within the Authority’s boundaries.”

Such agreements confirm the City’s stated intention to make sure this URA only serves to benefit the long-term growth and vitality of Castle Pines North.
Despite these positive steps and assurances from neighboring service entities that the URA will not cause any negative impact, a great deal of confusion still exists around what the Urban Renewal Authority is and the impact that it will have.

The Castle Pines Economic Development Council, in conjunction with the City Council, would like to help clarify matters for residents and for business owners by offering the following open house/information sessions regarding the URA:

Thursday, July 29 – 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Thursday, August 5 – 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Both sessions will be held at the Castle Pines Community Center (7404 Yorkshire Drive).

The City is committed to working with our neighboring government entities to ensure they do not experience any adverse impact to their funding sources – and to working with residents, businesses and area service providers to outline our vision for the vibrant future of our community.

The City always welcomes open and ongoing discussion. Visit www.CPNfacts.com for more information.

“I appreciate the City of Castle Pines North proactively reaching out to the Castle Rock Fire District,” said Fire Chief Arturo Morales. “We, as emergency responders, are pleased that the City took the time to hear our concerns and that they have done their part to guarantee that we’re adequately compensated for the services we provide.”
