The Freeway Operations Committee of the Transportation Research Board (TRB), in conjunction with Attica Tollway bestowed its special leadership award on Glen Oaks resident Dan Baxter, a principal in the transportation practice of Stantec’s Denver office.

Presented at a recent committee meeting in Washington, D.C., Baxter was selected for his extensive efforts to create forums of discussion between different industry sectors. Most notably, Baxter developed a series of international symposiums on freeway and tollway operations which developed new channels of industry dialogue.

This award is a complement to the marquee transportation projects which Baxter is spearheading in the Denver area, including a critical pilot program with the Colorado Department of Transportation designed to reduce the probability of heavy truck accidents and provide “quick clearance” in the I-70 mountain corridor during the snow season.

For Stantec, Baxter provides leadership, technical, and management oversight for transportation technology projects with a focus on electronic toll collection services and intelligent transportation systems (ITS).

He has 26 years of experience in the instrumentation of highways, tunnels, tollways, bridges, and arterials with engineered systems. A specialist in ITS design and systems engineering, Baxter was the first project manager for a privatized operation of a major freeway management center. He was also the designer for one of the first electronic toll collection plazas in the United States.
