Castle Pines goes on the run

The annual Rock Slide 5K and 1 mile fun run took place on Saturday, October 1.  The race began and ended at Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) where roughly 250 runners and walkers, led by the school’s health team made their way through the streets of Castle Pines and were welcomed back to a yummy pancake breakfast as well as the opening of the school’s book fair.

The BRE parent organization (BREA) puts on this event every year and gives awards for finishing first through third places for girls and for boys as well as a separate “spirit award” for one student from each grade level who shows the most school spirit with their attire.

Winners were awarded with trophies and of course, bragging rights.  Boys 5K winners: 1st place Jackson W., 2nd place Josh P.; Girls 5K winners: 1st place Savannah N., 2nd place Joyelin H., 3rd place Jayden S., and honorable 5K finisher Sophia P.  Boys one-mile winners: 1st place Nico W., 2nd place Liam A., 3rd place Blake C.; Girls one-mile winners: 1st place Grace K., 2nd place Christina S.  Spirit award winners received $10 Target gift cards.  Those winners were Amelia M., Molly B., Evan I., Jackson P., Emmett D., Andrew A., and Stella C.

The race was free to all who participated.  A small fee was charged to add a Flippin’ Flapjacks pancake breakfast, which included sausage and orange juice.  A fun and energetic time was had by all.
