Castle Pines consolidating parks and recreation services

The Retreat Park in Castle Pines is one of three parks currently managed by CPNMD.

The City of Castle Pines is continuing discussions with the Castle Pines North Metro District (CPNMD) to transfer parks and recreation duties from CPNMD to the City of Castle Pines. CPNMD currently manages Daniels Gate, Coyote Ridge and The Retreat parks throughout Castle Pines, along with more than 350 acres of open space and 14 miles of trails.

If the transfer is approved by the CPNMD Board of Directors and the Castle Pines City Council, the most visible change for residents will be the transfer of facility reservations from CPNMD to the City’s parks and recreation systems. The City of Castle Pines could assume responsibility for CPNMD’s parks and recreation as early as April.

The transfer and consolidation of government services is a continuing theme between the CPNMD and the incorporated City of Castle Pines. In June 2022, both entities agreed to transfer stormwater management from CPNMD to the City (see related story on this post).
