Castle Pines Athletics plays basketball in Castle Pines

Submitted by Lane Roberts, Castle Pines Athletics

Basketball is back in Castle Pines! Castle Pines Athletics has teamed up again this year with the DCS Montessori School to provide the co-ed program to children ages preschool to fourth grade. The season runs November 28 to February 19.

“Our basketball program has grown so much this year,” said Shannon Terry, manager for Castle Pines Athletics. “Our program would not be possible without the support of the DCS Montessori School and their willingness to work with us.” Through this partnership, Castle Pines Athletics will give more than $4,000 to this Charter School.

The program this year has 18 teams of children practicing and playing games at the local school.

Like other sports provided by Castle Pines Athletics, the league brings together children from all the schools throughout the community.

“Kids from all over the community join together to play in this league,” said Terry. “This program helps connect us as neighbors regardless of where your child attends school.”

Castle Pines Athletics also greatly depends on volunteer parent coaches to help bring sports to the children of the Castle Pines community. The new basketball program brought back veteran coaches, as well as a few new faces. Special thanks to the following parent coaches:

Preschool and kindergarten coaches –
Nick Neira, Jeff DePasse, Dave Perovich, Jennifer Tucker, Mark Poschl, Seth Goldfogel, Martin VanDerSchouw, Kevin Whitten, Scott Miller, Rob Terry, and Justin Kliewer.

First and second grade coaches –
Jesse Crispe, Neil Wilson, Clint Fisch, Brian Levy, Andy Meyer, Todd Morton, Steve Caughlin, John Pettygrove, Lori Hodges, Mark Rawlings, Russell Sampson, and George Wright.

Third and fourth grade coaches –
Jesse Goble, Grant Nelson, Eric Graning, John Ogden, Jerry Ogg, and Tom Rennell.

Castle Pines Athletics would also like to extend its gratitude and thanks to Dr. Andrew Dunbar with Castle Pines Orthodontics and to DAZBOG Coffee’s local owner, Geoff Newman, for supporting the basketball program.

“We are so pleased to be able to bring basketball back to Castle Pines children again this year,” said Castle Pines Athletics founder Lane Roberts. “It is a great way to keep kids active during the winter months.”
