Castle Crocs Swimming into Season Two
by Carin Kirkegaard
Castle Pines North (CPN) children are pulling out their sun block and goggles in anticipation of the start of swim season.
Once again, the Castle Crocs will hold morning practices Monday through Friday from 7-8 a.m. and 8-9 a.m. at the HOA1 pool. Meets are scheduled in June and July. The team opens registration to all CPN swimmers, age 18 and younger, who can swim the length of the pool unassisted. Registration for the Castle Crocs will begin in early April. Check the Castle Croc’s website, www.castlecrocs.com for specific dates and times.
As a member of the Mountain High Swim League (MHSL), the Crocs offer a chance for members to compete in dual, preliminary, championship and all-star meets throughout the summer. In its inaugural season the team finished second in championships, and nine swimmers qualified for the all star meet.
“We were extremely pleased with how smoothly the inaugural season went. We appreciate HOA1 allowing us to use the pool to help more than 100 CPN children improve their strokes, exercise and be part of a team. It was amazing to place second in championships in our first year,” said Colette Celecki, Castle Crocs board member.
As a parent run team, the focus of the Crocs is swimmer development, improvement of strokes and sportsmanship. As a nonprofit organization, the team is sponsored by many of the local businesses of CPN. Linda Knight, Castle Pines Orthodontics, Castle Cones, Safe Splash Swim School, Little Italy, Washington Mutual, and New York Gandolfo’s Delicatessen sponsored the Crocs last summer.
