Castle Crocs Hit the Water

by Anthonette Klinkerman

Swimmers of all ages are ready to hit the pool, but one group is already out of the water and toweling off. The Castle Crocs swim team, now in its third year, has participated in a few meets since the beginning of the season.

Parents recognized a need for a swim team, and with efforts from families in The Village, Castle Crocs was hatched.

Presently on the team are 150 kids from around Castle Pines North, and a waitlist has been formed. Carin Kirkagard of the Castle Rock Recreation Center (and CPN resident), assures that the organization is making every effort to accommodate all those waiting to jump in.

Swimmers meet from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., followed by the older age groups from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The eight and younger set have a shorter 40-minute practice to accommodate the needs of smaller children.

Meeting this year at the HOA2 pool facilities, the team welcomes the return of coach Kevin Millerick. Millerick specializes in immersion swimming and stroke introduction, which focuses on swimmers using and maintaining proper form. Originally from England, Millerick lives in Happy Canyon and also spends time coaching the Master’s Swim team of Castle Rock.
