Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) kicked off the school year on August
11 with more than 2,000 students enrolled in school. RCHS has grown a
substantial amount since it first opened and has big plans to grow even
more throughout the years. There are all kinds of students at RCHS and
kids (and staff) from all over the world, as well as people with
different perspectives and different plans. RCHS is filled with cool
clubs, cool courses, and even cooler kids.

With more than 24 sports offered, Rock Canyon students are
passionate about their Jaguar spirit. Freshman Bryce Henningsen plays
football and said, “The thing that makes football great is being with
your best friends for 15 or more hours per week.” The freshman football
team is off to a strong start and without a doubt has a great season
ahead of them.

Castle Pines resident Mandy Shuster plays volleyball for RCHS and
said, “The program is a great way for girls to meet each other through
something they love, and I love it because for an incoming freshman like
me, it makes me feel more comfortable.” Lauren Kirger, who is also a
Castle Pines resident and volleyball player said, “Volleyball is a lot
of fun. It is cool meeting new people and having a great time with
friends while playing the sport you love.” Volleyball happens to be in
season right now, but winter and even spring sports are starting to
train and condition for the great seasons to come.

Sports are just one example of all the things RCHS has to offer;
there are numerous clubs and activities students can participate in.
Logan Bacon of Castle Pines is participating in the RCHS theater program
and said, “The theater program is the cherry on top of a new start in
high school; the work is fun, the people are amazing, and the shows are
challenging.”

The RCHS staff is supportive of the students’ creativity and ideas.
If a student wants to create a club, a staff member is more than happy
to help make it happen. With students from ages 13 to 18, people from
all over the globe, and minds with different perspectives, all unite as
one to create the Jaguars of Rock Canyon High School.
