Buffalo Ridge Elementary (BRE) students Mary and Chas Recine and their family decided to collect Halloween candy for the troops. BRE assisted by sending out communication and collecting the candy at the front office. It quickly turned into an amazing service project as BRE families, neighbors and veterans dropped off their extra candy.
The candy is being shipped to Operation Gratitude as part of its 2016 Halloween Candy GIVE-Back Program. A total of 245 pounds of candy was collected, and the UPS Store in Castle Pines generously helped offset the shipping costs. Mary commented, “It makes me feel good to give something to our troops. They are making a big sacrifice being so far away from home.” Younger brother Chas added, “I collected candy for our troops because they are helping our country and deserve something nice.”
