Members of the Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) Safety Patrol were recognized for their responsibility and hard work helping BRE students arrive and depart from school safely each day, at a ceremony held at the school.

Assistant Principal Russ Jenson started the safety patrol program two years ago. Jenson’s first protégé for the program was former BRE student Valentino (Tino) DiPasquale. DiPasquale was present for the ceremony and helped Jenson honor this year’s 25 members.

Fifth graders Tyler Beach and Paul Harrison were both recognized for performing above the requirements of a safety patrol member. Beach was noted for consistently taking the stop signs and vests to the teachers on duty each morning as well as keeping the storage closet organized each day. Harrison was complemented for always being early for each shift he served throughout the year.

“I started the program as a way to get students involved in their school community as well as provide an opportunity for these students to take a personal responsibility for the safety in and around their school,” said Jenson.

Throughout the entire school year, no matter if it was raining, snowing, or sweltering heat, safety patrol members were out assisting the teachers working as crossing guards and helping BRE students get to and from school safely.
