The Buffalo Ridge Dream Team, the elementary school’s student council, raised $350 with Alex’s Lemonade Stand at the Second Annual Buffalo Stampede.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation began with a four-year-old little girl named Alex who was fighting childhood cancer. She decided that she wanted to set up a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for the disease. Her stand that day raised $2,000. Although Alex passed away four years later at the age of eight, her lemonade stand lives on across the country and has raised millions.

According to Jen Jacoway, co-sponsor of the dream team and first grade teacher at Buffalo Ridge Elementary, dream team member Ann Gibson gathered the information about Alex’s Lemonade Stand and brought the idea to the group. After registering the school with the foundation the dream team was set to start selling lemonade.

“We sold 600 cups of lemonade,” commented Jacoway. “We had the lemonade, the cups, the coolers and the ice all donated. It was all profit which was so great,” Jacoway said.

The Dream Team has philanthropic projects planned throughout the school year. Including a Penny Harvest for the homeless, a Salvation Army food drive, and adopting a family at Christmas.

“Whenever there is a need in the community, the Dream Team is willing to come and help,” said Jacoway. To contact the Dream Team, e-mail Jennifer Jacoway.
