Blacklight run for fun!

This summer, hit the highway

Article and photos by Maria Pangalos, RCHS intern writer

For high school students, summer means freedom, late nights, travel, light clothing, pure bliss and endless adventures.  Here is a starter list of absolutely awesome things to do during the beautiful Colorado summers.

Daniels Gate: Many have ventured to Daniels Gate park, but have you used the grills to make a picnic dinner and watched the spectacular CO sunset?  Michael Pangalos (my father), a local of 8 years, had yet to explore the wonders of Daniel’s Gate until last week. “It was a very serene, contemplative and beautiful place.” Pangalos said.

14ers: Those mountains to the west?  There are a total of 53 mountains over 14,000 feet high in Colorado and you can climb every one of them.  “You feel so accomplished once you reach the top, it’s worth all the work,”  said Ryan Meisner who climbed Mt. Bierstadt to Mt. Evans in one day.  For more information, visit www.14ers.com.

Do WHAT 1,200 feet above the Arkansas River?:
If you’re
craving an adrenaline rush or you’re just a straight-up dare devil, this
excursion is for you.  The Royal Gorge offers a zipline across the
gorge or a ride on the Royal Rush Skycoaster.  Fear not!  This
destination isn’t just for adventurers; there’s also the Royal Gorge
bridge, mini train, and gondola.  Closer to home is the Castle Rock
zipline which offers over 10 miles of ziplining and fun.  For more
information, visit www.royalgorgeziplinetours.com and

Blacklight Run: The time of your life begins at 8:45 PM.
Intended for friends and family of all shapes and sizes, you can run or
walk, but there is one rule:  you’ve got to wear a white shirt.  Why at
night and white shirts?  UV glowing dust is thrown everywhere and
illuminated with UV lights on the track.  Once you’re done there’s the
after party of the year.  “There’s loud music, free stuff, dancing, glow
dust, and nothing more than fond memories,” said Mandy Shuster.  For
more information, go to www.blacklightrun.com.

Slide the City: Imagine a slip-n’-slide that’s the length of
over three football fields!  Live music, food, and lots of water is the
perfect summer combination for family and friends. Visit
www.slidethecity.com for locations and dates.
