Bin Blessed turns nine

Bin Blessed celebrated its ninth year in business at an anniversary party held at Cheryl and Mike Porter’s home in the Village.

Founded by Cy DeBoer, Bin Blessed works with There With Care, a nonprofit that provides thoughtful and fundamental services to families and children during the critical phase of a medical crisis.

Cy and her team of volunteers collect essentials – diapers, food, clothes and toys – to help parents who are already under financial and emotional stress caring for their sick child. In November, there was a collection of slow cookers.

“I have trouble not tearing up when I think of our small beginning and then the families who are being blessed by the generosity of strangers to help these sweet families,” stated Cy. “We are organic – no budget – just willing hearts to donate their gifts, time and treasure every single month.”

Cy credits president Sheri Flaherty with the organization’s success and for increased community outreach. “It is so humbling,” concluded Cy. “We are growing so quickly in schools and churches.”

Since its inception, Bin Blessed has received more than $1 million of in-kind and cash donations and assembled a total of 3,223 gift bags, 50 every month. For more information, visit binblessed.com.
