American Academy (AA) joined the nation in honoring local police officers for Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on January 9. Recognizing local officers and staff for their hard work and dedication to keeping our communities safe is a new tradition at AA.

At a school where uniforms are required dress code, AA students were incentivized to support the Douglas County Fallen Officers Fund. For every student who brought in a $5 donation, the student earned a day where instead of the required uniform, they could dress as they want. Together, the campuses raised $8,300 in total. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) Captain Troy McCarty was presented with the AA donation at the ceremony held at the Castle Pines campus.

In addition to the donation, the DCSO deputies and staff were treated to a catered lunch and given many heart-felt notes of thanks and gratitude from students attending all three AA campuses.
