The Old Stone Church, built in 1888, was home for many years to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church congregation. In 1966, the congregation left for another location and remodeling began in 1975 to convert the church into a restaurant. The Old Stone Church Restaurant has an inviting and warm atmosphere with tables located in the main dining area (the old pew section of the church) and seating on the second floor, which was once a choir loft. A table for two waits in what was once the church’s confessional.

Jeff and Jeryn Richard have been the owners since 2004. With their friendly staff, unique setting and delicious cuisine, it is perfect for a special occasion, that special someone or for spending time with friends. Richard (chef/owner) created the delectable menu with his love of fresh seafood, sauces and great cuisine in mind. The menu offers an array of choices and specials pleasing anyone’s palette.

For starters, the Shrimp Enchiladas (with goat cheese served with a luscious chipotle cream sauce) is a must to experience. Other favorites are the Pepper jack Queso Fundido, baked with lump crabmeat and served with tortilla chips or the Crispy Sweet and Sour Calamari with Thai chiles and sesame.

The salads are delightful as well. Try the Old Stone Church Salad, with mixed greens, citrus vinaigrette, caramelized apples, cranberries, spicy pecans and gorgonzola or the Maytag Blue Cheese Salad, mixed greens with heirloom tomato bruschetta, pine nuts and apple vinaigrette.

There are a variety of entrées to choose from, but here are a few favorites; the tasty Grilled Sea Scallops with prosciutto and leak raviolis, and shrimp drizzled with white truffle butter sauce or the Buffalo Ribeye Steak served with cinnamon jus and cactus fries. Another favorite is the Java Salmon, rubbed with coffee, ancho chile powder and brown sugar, grilled and served with goat cheese orzo.

While waiting for your entrée(s), nibble on the complimentary grilled flat bread with a Chimichurri sauce. The kiddos can also enjoy their favorites as well, such as hamburgers, quesadillas, chicken fingers and french fries. They offer a mouth-watering dessert menu with Banana Fosters on the list and other yummy choices like the Bread Pudding or Chocolate Mousse Cake.

Next to the dining room is Chaplain’s Bar (a local secret). Chaplain’s has one of the best happy hours in town with their lively local vibe, fabulous drink specials and appetizers for just $5. Chaplain’s is a place you will always feel welcome. They are open Tuesdays thru Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with daily happy hour from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Old Stone Church is located at 210 3rd Street, Castle Rock. Hours of operation are Tuesday thru Saturday with lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and dinner from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. (and closed Sundays and Mondays). Reservations are accepted.
