A summer of reading for the whole family
Contributed by Douglas County Libraries
It’s no secret that kids who read during the summer months fare better on fall reading tests than kids who don’t. A great way to keep them reading is to participate in the Summer Reading Program at Douglas County Libraries.
Beginning June 1, register the whole family online at DouglasCountyLibraries.org or at any Douglas County Libraries location. The program, which follows the Colorado State Library theme, Dream Big … READ!, offers great incentives for readers of all ages.
– Register June 1 – July 13. Turn in completed logs no later than July 27.
– Kids 12 and younger, read for 12 hours. Teens 10 – 18, read for 18 hours. Kids and teens who complete the program will receive a water bottle, coupons and freebies from our partners (listed below), and a chance to win tickets to Elitch Gardens.
– Adults, read four books and record their titles. Adults who complete the program will be entered into a grand prize drawing for $100 Visa gift cards; one per library.
– Many thanks to our generous sponsors: AMF Littleton Lanes, Chick Fil-A, Colorado Rapids, Heritage Square, Pirates Cove Family Fun Aquatic Center, Monster Mini Golf, Plains Conservation Center, South Suburban Parks & Recreation, The Wildlife Experience, and our grand prize drawing sponsor for kids and teens, Elitch Gardens. Prizes are subject to change, not guaranteed and available only while supplies last.
As part of Summer Reading, Douglas County Libraries will present several free live entertainment opportunities for children ages five and older. Registration required beginning June 1; call 303-791-7323 or visit DouglasCountyLibraries.org and click “Events” for information and registration.
