A passion for pets leads to newest pet care facility in Castle Rock
by Sally Uhrich
There is now a new addition to the many fine pet daycare and boarding facilities in and around Castle Rock. Tails Up Deluxe Pet Hotel and Daycare has been in operation since July ’08. Co-founders and owners, Marc and Jill Sousa, are Pet Care Services Association (PCSA) Certified Advanced Pet Care Technicians, as are other staff members.
“Our 8,000 square foot facility is climate-controlled and features a lounge for individualized attention,” says Marc. “The required, initial consultation allows our staff to evaluate the specific needs of your pet.”
Tails Up creates a blend of playtime and relaxation time that gives dogs a fun-filled day without over-exertion and over-stimulation. The 7,000 square foot outdoor play yards are covered with a synthetic turf designed specifically for dogs. There are two large yards for the bigger dogs and a separate small dogs only play yard. Each yard has its own climbing area.
Daycare guests enjoy naptime in their own private indoor room, between morning and afternoon hour-long play groups . The groups consist of friends similar in size, activity level and play style.
Each guest has a private room with walls, not fencing, glass windows and doors, along with a furnished, raised, bed and bedding. The rooms are different sizes, to better accommodate the guests.
Tails Up offers all guests that are boarding five nights or longer a complimentary bath before their departure. Short term guests are offered a bath for a fee. Local groomers will be scheduled to come and groom your dog, if requested.
Tails up has a great “spa” that is open for bathing their own dog. The room is available on a first-come, first-serve basis on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Towels, shampoo, treats, and a hair dryer are supplied.
Customized, 15-minute sessions are offered for cuddle time, massage therapy, and extra playtime for a nominal fee. Basic obedience or tricks training are other options.
Feline guests enjoy their own space with Tails Up. Each room has a large main level, an elevated shelf for an alternate perch and a private litter room separate of the sleeping area. There are also two large cat playrooms, where your cat can explore the climbing tree or watch the happenings outside their space through the large, viewing windows.
Tails Up is PCSA accredited. Another added feature is the doggiecam, for outdoor viewing of pets. A monthly newsletter called, “The Not So Daily Piddle,” is sent to all clients. Training classes are also offered at the facility.
