5 easy ways you can turn goals into business success
By Michelle Post
Do you know the saying, “failing to plan, is planning to fail?” Not writing goals for one’s business each year is planning to fail. Goals produce confidence, focus and increase productivity. Goals can also motivate you and empower you to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles you face.
Step-1: Write SMART goals, and I mean WRITE them down
Specific – the more detailed the goal, the easier it is to obtain
Measurable – if it cannot be measured, it cannot be managed
Attainable – a goal must be big enough to stretch you out of your comfort zone and yet also be realistic
Relevant – a goal must align with the mission/vision of the business
Time-bound – a goal without a deadline is just a wish
TIP: Use the 6-Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why and How) to ask questions to identify goals. Here is an excellent resource for writing goals: www.mindtools.com/pages/article/smart-goals.htm.
Step-2: Post the written goals in three places
Post your goals in three places where you will see them every day, and read them when you look at them.
TIP: Here are a few suggestions: bathroom mirror, refrigerator, by your computer, on the dash of your car, as a screen saver on your computer, or the home screen graphic on your phone.
Step-3: Review your goals every night before bed and say them aloud
What you read, watch or hear 15 minutes before going to bed, your subconscious mind loops it no less than six times. You will wake up thinking about your goals. What a wonderful way to start the day!
Step-4: Share your goals with an accountability partner
There is no better way to achieve your goals than with an accountability partner. This person could be a paid coach, a mentor or a “tough love” friend who will say what you need to hear.
Step-5: Celebrate!
No matter how small the achievement of a goal, you must celebrate.
