Many area farmers markets have opened for the season, and more are scheduled to open this month. Before you grab your shopping bags, familiarize yourself with these few helpful tips:
- Shop with an idea or list of what you need to make your shopping trip as quick as possible.
- Wash hands before and after visiting the market.
- As much as we all love to socialize over fresh pastries and coffee, keep socializing to a minimum and give fellow patrons space.
- Let vendors assist with packaging and limit the items you touch.
- Minimize money handling; when possible, use exact change, credit card, or contactless payments.
Food samples, food trucks and live music may be absent this summer, but one thing that has not changed are personal connections between farmers, vendors, shoppers and communities.
